Bzzzzzz zap I can feel some static!

StaticESDStatic
static electricity
noun
  1. a stationary electric charge, typically produced by friction, that causes sparks or crackling or the attraction of dust or hair.

(Scientists believe that it is not the rubbing or friction that causes electrons to move. It is simply the contact between two different materials. Rubbing just increases the contact area between them.) Static electricity is the imbalance of. positive and negative charges.

Walking across a rug can produce a static electricity voltage of up to 12,000 volts, but static voltage is not life threatening. So it is possible to damage a hard drive with static electricity that is not even felt by the person because it is at such a low voltage. Also, computers become increasingly susceptible to static electricity damage as more and more circuitry is built into them.
The main components affected by these devious charges are semiconductors. This is because they incorporate various delicate components, and when a negative charge is discharged onto it by virtue of static, it causes failures, as there is no conductor that can dissipate, hence causing damage.
Semiconductors, include diodes, microchips, transistors, etc.
Static electricity, causes damage to sensitive electronic components, so if one brings it near electronics, there will be failure.

So how can we address this?

ESD Protection

The electronic industry has placed a growing emphasis on reliability and quality assurance. ESD damage toElectrostatic Discharge Sensitive Devices (ESDS)  can be minimized by using ESD control measures.

  • Handle electrostatic discharge sensitive devices (ESDS) only in an ESD protected area (EPA)
  • Avoid electrostatic potential differences and electrostatic discharges
  • Use wrist straps, approved footwear and floor combination for personnel grounding
  • Wear properly fastened dissipative garments
  • Avoid electrostatic generating materials (normal PE, PVC, PS, etc.) inside an EPA
  • Do not expose ESDS to electrostatic fields > 100V / cm (10 kV/m) !
  • Use only approved ESD protective packaging materials
  • Awareness, personnel training, continuous monitoring are essential for maintaining a static control program

We can offer the following solutions to you:
  1. A wide range of ESD Products.
  2. ESD Training for your staff
  3. ESD measurements and assessing your ESD requirements on site

CK brings you their new Electronic Service Kit.

CK 1642 TOOLKIT
A great combination of high quality CK tools in a sylish hard ABS case. To view a complete list of the contents click HERE.
Also available in the range is an Electicians Toolkit
Choosing the ideal Tool case can make all of the difference when it comes to securing your equipment and enjoying greater ease of access. When you’re searching for the right storage solution for your tools, it’s necessary to first consider a tool case’s size, style, compartments, material, and how often you plan to use it. Selecting a tool case that’s the wrong size, or made of a poor quality material, is not only a waste of money, but can also lead to equipment damage and unnecessary problems.
The core advantages of using a tool case are organization and accessibility. Whether you’re working on a project in your garage, or traveling to different jobs throughout the day, a tool case will keep your equipment safe and well-organized. Rather than having to sort through disorganized tools and choosing the correct ones for each job, you can use one or more tool cases to store specific tools so they’re easily accessible. Some tool cases also have compartments for greater organization and more spacious storage.
When choosing a tool case, it’s important to know which size would adequately house your tools and equipment. Smaller tool cases are perfect for storing tools used for mundane exterior and interior property repairs, and are naturally not always the best solution for professionals who need to carry various types of equipment with them. Larger tool cases are must haves for specialists that require plenty of space and/or separate compartments they can store different tools in while traveling to and from each job.
Another aspect to consider before purchasing a tool case is the type of material from which it’s made. Regardless of how often you would need to use your portable tool box, it’s important to choose a model that’s durable and suits your preferences. Metal and hard plastic are popular choices; however, each type of material has its benefits and drawbacks. For instance, metal is sturdy and able to hold up better in extreme environments especially with a durable powder coat paint finish.
